Friday I’m In Love… the apologetic edition!

Hey y’all. These posts have sort of fallen to the way-side because life, work, classes and posts got in the way. BUT! Fear not. They’ve returned. Just don’t call it a comeback.

This summer is going to be really, really exciting. I’m going to be an auntie, my best friend is getting married, and I’m going to some pretty amazing food blogging conferences. Conference season is kicking off this weekend with a trip to Disneyworld (!!!) for Food Blog Forum. I haven’t been since I was 6 and they were just building Splash Mountain so to say I’m excited is a bit of an understatement.

I’ll be back next week, but I’ve got some favorites for you to check out while I’m away! [Read more...]

Friday I’m in Love: 3/22/13 Favorites

Well, here we are again. A week has gone by. I’m another year older. Another year wiser? Totally debatable. Still, I’ve stumbled upon some pretty awesome stuff this week, including a replacement for Google Reader.

This week, I’m in love with:

1. Keeping it natural. Particularly THIS METHOD of dying Easter eggs.

2. My hometown. [well, that's all the time] and THIS RECIPE, which is based on a Meriden staple, which I LOVE.

God bless Connecticut.

Friday, I’m in Love: The Birthday edition!

Hostess Chocolate Birthday cupcakes!
Well, folks, it’s that time again. Friday is glorious for many reasons, but today is especially special for a few reasons. First and foremost, it’s my BIRTHDAY! (yay!) which means that I headed up to CT for the weekend, took the day off to do and eat whatever the heck I please and am spending a long weekend with my family and friends.

Despite being a terrible sharer, I don’t want to hoard all the fun. I’m bringing along some cupcakes AND presents for you in the form a GIVEAWAY! (woohoo!) More on that at the end of the weekly love. (You’ll want to read on. Trust me, it’s a good one!)

Friday I’m in Love: Favorites for 3/8/13

Forgive me for falling off the bandwagon on these Friday Favorites posts. Between getting sick and an overly hectic week or so at work, I haven’t been as good as I should have about posting these!

Each Friday, I clean out my Pocket app (think of it as Pinterest for web links that lets you read them in a format similar to Google Reader) and share all the stuff I love from the week.

This week, I’m in love with…

1. THESE NAILS. All the things you love on the interwebs on your fingertips!

2. THIS ARTICLE. A shocking look at the food industry and how it got us hooked on processed foods, sugars, salts & fats. As someone with a baking blog, I think about sugar all the time and how only presenting sweets can come across to readers. It’s important to consider everything in moderation and after reading this, I’m at least glad that I bake or cook most of the food I eat and don’t buy a lot of pre-packaged food…

3. Speaking of the dangers of processed foods, THIS NEW BOOK will equip you with recipes to recreate some of your favorite childhood snacks (Twinkies, Cheetos, Tastykakes and Fruit Roll-Ups, anyone?). I met Casey in Philly yesterday and she’s just as sweet as the treats in her book!

4. THESE TIPS ON BEING A BETTER WRITER. They seem obvious and overly simple, but the reminder is always welcome to my distracted brain!

5. Speaking of reminders, I’ve been slammed over the head with the realization that somewhere along the way I’ve stunted my own creativity. Thank goodness for THESE 10 IDEAS.

6. THIS GROUP OF BLOGGERS. Our first swap was this month and my stomach is already in love.

7. THIS INGREDIENT. We’ve podcasted about it before, but any liquor that will not only have me thinking of spring and “gussy up” traditional cocktails is fiiiine by me.

8. LISTS THAT DON’T GO UP TO TEN.

:)

Friday I’m in Love: 2/1/13

This week is all about trying new things. Podcasting, British cask beer, and something fun for this blog. I often stumble upon great articles, blogs and videos during the week that I save using a fantastic app called Pocket. At the end of the week, I like to take a look back at what I found interesting over the course of the last seven days. I’ve been doing it for a while and thought it might be fun to share with y’all. I’m calling it Friday I’m in love!

This piece got me thinking about the American diet and how much food I buy.

I also found myself answering some tough questions.

…and wanting several of these.

Do fermented foods represent ideologies? My friend Maddie thinks so!

I wouldn’t even miss the flour in a chocolate torte that looked this gorgeous.

My favorite mall beverage just got a whole lot classier.

I might need to watch this Tedx Talk every week for a year.

Valentine’s Day is in two weeks! (in case you needed a reminder to start planning what you’re going to bake)

oh and tonight was the series finale of 30 Rock. But I am postponing watching because this week has been so stellar that I don’t want to be sad that there’s a Liz Lemon-shaped hole in my heart. She’s sort of my role model [the square glasses, brunette hair, the Philly thing, the nerdy thing, dating experiences, and, most importantly her feeling towards food and thoughts on sandwiches] and I’ll be sad to only have her in re-run form.

Until next week! Have a good one!
